FAMOUS ARTISTSilvano Bavia

Silvano Bavia is a contemporary artist working with ceramics and papier-mâché. His artworks range from sculptural ceramic vases to ceramic and papier-mâché rose installations.
Silvano Bavia was born in Lecce, lives and works in Florence and Maremma (Cana), after having lived in London for many years. His work is based on a very personal interpretation of the ancient tradition of papier-mâché and ceramics, conceived with the spirit of contemporary western aesthetics. Bavia, for papier-mâché, takes the humble material of newspapers, recycles it and transforms it into emotional and alchemical 3D installations. His work involves the visual and tactile perceptions of the spectators, making them question the palpable aspects of the delicate floral forms, in particular ‘roses’, hand-made, individually from recycled newspapers.
In ceramics he creates sculptures, lamps and installations. The inspiration is always Nature with its shapes, its textures and its colors. His ceramic sculpture-vases with roses are very original, they seem to be born and come out of the primordial ceramic material, until they bloom and take on their final form.
His ‘Roses on Stem’, crafted from ceramic or papier-mâché, elevate the viewer’s perception to a heightened emotional level. The installation “The Rose Garden” (featuring more than 50 roses) is one of Bavia’s most popular works.

In 2025, his collection has been enriched with a series of sculptural vases characterized by a material surface that recalls natural elements such as volcanic rock, archaeological finds, marine rocks and so on; very emotional, elegant and refined sculptures capable of arousing ancestral memories while remaining anchored to contemporaneity.
